About Cleves School
Cleves school opened in 1967 and is now a five form entry co-educational Foundation School for children aged between 7 and 11 years. There are at present 600+ on roll in classes of 29-32 pupils. At Cleves we aim to teach skills, knowledge and understanding which pupils need to lead confident, healthy lives and to become informed active and responsible citizens through the provision of a broad, balanced curriculum. At Cleves, we are all learners, striving to progress and develop. About Jonathan's role in the school
Jonathan leads the music teaching in the school. Jonathan is constantly making sure that all children get a broad and inspiring curriculum throughout the year. Jonathan also leads the ensembles and currently runs the Cleves Choir, Orchestra and helps out with a handbell group and percussion group. The school ensembles have a wide range of performance opportunities from singing at the O2 arena to helping support local charities in fund raising concerts in St. Mary's Church, Oatlands. Recent engagements include a joint concert with Walton Voices (a choir Jonathan also runs). The Music Curriculum
Jonathan works extremely hard to give all children the opportunities of playing an instrument and that is why every year group gets to try out at least one. This has been set up in the hope that children take up the instruments or similar ones after being introduced to them. Jonathan strives to give all children the four essential skills in music; listening, writing (composing), performing and general musical knowledge. Although it isn't considered essential to read music in order to be a fabulous musician, Jonathan does encourage basic music reading skills and does encourage children to learn outside of lessons. The varied curriculum encompassing all genres of music means the children leave each year with a grown and developed love for music. Something that can be seen as an asset when applying to secondary schools. |
